Love
Make Love Not War!
Teach our children to love one another.

By Debora Myers
The world is in an awful state and I must say my peace. The most powerful tool I can think of in "Saving the world," or rather "Saving human kind" is to simply teach our children how to love one another. Whether it is kids killing each other at school, or grown lunatics committing genocide, they all lack one thing. They do not love themselves.

What can we do about it? First, all you new mothers out there. Learn from my generations past mistakes. Personally, I abhor violent video and computer games. I have watched the kid's eyes become glazed over as the obsession takes them to shouting "Cool, Kill him, Blow him away, Blow his head off. They are put in touch with a part of ourselves that I believe we should push down and hopefully someday we can evolve from murderous beasts to loving spiritual, caring beings.

I know boys and men need to be strong and exercise their strengths as defenders and bread winners but we as parents must also teach them balance and control and this can't be done if they are allowed to plug their minds into killing and maiming. Combined with the evil lyrics of the music many of the kids listen to and the graphic violence of the "thriller movies" its no wonder our children are cracking.

Mom's and dads out there unplug your kids from the violence. Get them involved in positive programs and sports and start them young! Spend more time with them. Reprioritize your time for what is truly important. Put the next big material purchase on the back burner, work less and spend the time with your kids. Monitor what your kids are up to. Lavish love and be attentive to your children. Don't be afraid to be demonstrative, hug and kiss your children, snuggle them down to bed, read stories and be there for them. Play games with them, go bowling or skating or play basketball. Most of all keep an open dialogue with them. Ask them what they are up to. Talk and more importantly listen to them.

Love them and they will learn to love. Throw away your guns or lock them up tightly and make sure they are disassembled. Know that your kids are inquisitive and take the measures that will ensure their safety. Boycott the violent movies and video games!
